Tribe Of Frog @ Lakota

Saturday 24th September 2005
Review by Siren Emma

What better way to celebrate Tribe of Frogs 5th birthday than to dance with the lovely Sirenz! Sirenz dancing were, Lorraine, Michelle, Becky, Heather, Pinky and myself, also in attendance was Dave aka Technognome who was very kindly taking video footage of us dancing and some photos of the party!

We arrived to an already busy Lakota around 10.30pm to the sounds of Timmer (ToF) playing in the main room, I knew it was going to be a bouncy night, with some of us up on the stage I felt it only right to go for a look round and dance in the other rooms. I visited the progressive (middle) room and Hemp (ToF) was playing had a dance around the floor and said hello to some happy folk who were drawn to the costumes! Finally made it to the chillout room around about the 11.30pm mark and Justin Chaos was playing to an already full room! :)

The music in the main room was pulling me back in and after making our way down the winding stairs and taking a little time out to enjoy the fabulous poi spinning that was going on in the club thanks to a jugglers convention being in town that day I made it back down to the front and hopped on stage conquering my nerves and dancing. The music was pounding and I was looking forward to seeing Lurk (Hoi Pol Loi/Boom Records) play as the set I had heard before was heart stoppingly good! He didn't disappoint and I really enjoyed what I caught of his set. As Lurk clashed with Wicki (Organic Records/Phar Psyde), I decided to listen to the second part of her set in the Progressive room and headed up there to find a few other Sirenz enjoying her sounds, it is always so good to see a girl behind the decks and am so pleased that so many parties are catching on to this and getting these fine female DJs to play out, Wicki's set was definitely inspiring the dancefloor and I had fun dancing around with the masses!

I headed upstairs to catch some of Tripswitch's (Dragonfly Records) set in the chill out as I had managed to miss him at Glade, I really enjoyed what I heard but sadly the room was like a giant oven and in my costume I started to melt so I decided to have a roam around and see what else was going on, that's one of the highlights of a Tribe of Frog party, the fact that there is always something going on and many of these things are just spontaneous doings of the kind of people that party with them! There were jugglers and people with contact balls, as well as so many people who make the effort to create outfits to wear to Frog parties, its all part of the mixture that makes these parties stand out from the crowd.

The décor and lighting in the chillout was as ever spectacular and the café bravely manned by Zoe, Ott and cru was a welcome stop off for a drink and a catch up before heading back into the thick of it for more madness courtesy of F'da F'da (ToF)!

Then the highlight of the night for me, Jumanji (Nano Records)! WOW what a fantastic set, I danced on the balcony for the whole thing surrounded by people who were all loving it, and we all stayed in the same spot for the entire set! I couldn't really tell you what they played but between them they kept me moving and smiling more than I have all summer!

Rounding off the night with another trip to the chillout and then back to the main room for Dick Trevor's (Nano Records) set which was another floor filler I have to say Tribe of Frog certainly know how to celebrate a birthday with style. The décor was absolutely lovely as usual, the Faeries were stunning and floating around adding their special magic to the night, Snail and Stripe too adding their unique flavour and of course all the DJ's giving top performances and keeping the smiles steady and the bodies moving!

Huge huge amounts of respect to Jason Frog for organising such a brilliant party and inviting us Sirenz to be part of the fun, also to Emma Frog, Guy & Tina and all the other behind the scenes folk who are involved in getting the place decorated and making sure that everything runs as smoothly as possible. Big up to Zoe and Ott for the caff - the chai served with a grin was just what the doctor ordered.

A fabulous night all round - can't wait to see the video footage!!
