The Alphawave Project Masquerade Ball (Eat Static) @ Dance Academy, Plymouth

Friday 21st October 2005
Review by Siren Lorraine

On Friday 21st October the Sirenz headed to Plymouth to join in the fun at the Alphawave Project's Masquerade Ball. Eat Static were headlining, and we were booked specifically to dance during Eat Static's set.

The Sirenz dancers for the evening were Michelle, Emma, Nancy and myself. I was very excited indeed about heading over to Plymouth for what was looking to be an amazing night :)

We were aiming to leave Bristol around 7-7.30 in order to arrive between 10-10.30pm. We got ourselves as ready as possible beforehand, and headed out from Bristol around 7.30pm. Traffic on the M5 was a bit of a nightmare, we were stopped dead a couple of times, which is never good, and it was slow moving for quite some time. We eventually arrived in Plymouth at 10.45, where we were shown to a room we could add the finishing touches to our costumes.

Since this was a masquerade ball, Michelle had spent the week making some brilliant masks for us all, they looked really great.

When we had finished getting ready we headed into the Dance Academy and made our way onto the dancefloor. I have to say that I loved the venue. The club was brilliant, and the decor was amazing! Such effort had gone into making the place into a beautiful UV wonderland, it was fantastic. I felt right at home immediately.

We made our way around the club, and made our way to the front of the dancefloor and danced like maniacs to the end of Freedohm's brilliant set. We carried on dancing as Alkaline took his place on the decks. The music was spot on!

At 2am Eat Static were due on, so at 1.30 we headed upstairs and had a short break, ate some food and made sure we had plenty of water to take on stage. At ten to 2 the four of us headed downstairs and got on the side stages.

After Eat Static had been on for about 15 minutes, us Sirenz spread out to make use of the full stage space which had been provided for us - we had one dancer on each side stage, and two Sirenz dancers moved to dance on the stage that was situated behind and between Eat Static. We swapped periodically so that we all had the chance to dance on the middle stage.

Eat Static were brilliant, they kept the pace going throughout their 2 hour set, the music twisting and turning and leaving us gagging for more!

About 10 minutes before Eat Static were due to finish we made our way back onto the side stages, so as not to be in the way during their finale.

After Eat Static, Gacid took over, and he didn't disappoint! Us Sirenz headed upstairs for a break, but the music was so good I was still dancing! I decided to head downstairs to the front of the dancefloor and bounce around some more. It was fantastic!

Around 4.30 we decided to start getting changed and ready for the long journey home. We must have been such a site as we all stood there getting changed whilst still dancing away to the amazing tunes being pumped into the club! We left as the club came to a close at 5am, and headed back towards the car and home.

Huge thanks to all the Alphawave Project crew who helped us during the night and invited us down to dance. Thanks to Eat Static who played a brilliant set, and even offered us some of their fruit juice as we danced behind them! Such gentlemen :)

We all had a wonderful night, it was well worth the journey to Plymouth, and we look forward to more of the same!
