Spectrum @ The Blue Mountain

Friday 20th October 2006
Review by Siren Emma

Spectrum are a relatively new party crew who joined with Beats Reality for this first party at the Blue Mountain, and it was a total success. Having already put on some pounding parties at the Plough, a much smaller venue it was great to see them filling the Blue Mountain with such a great mix of people and with relative ease!

Dancing for Sirenz were Lorraine, Michelle, Emma and Alice. We arrived fairly early and wandered around admiring the décor and getting a feel for the place, the Blue Mountain is a lovely small venue which lends itself to intimate and friendly parties and this is exactly what Spectrum was. This would be the first time we had worn our new set of costumes at an indoor event and we were all quite interested to see how that worked out, we were all happy with our result and the dancefloor was awash with blurs of pink and purple all night long!

The downstairs room played host to some fierce techno, something that has been missing from my music diet for a long time, it was really great to get in there and have a really good stomp with some up for it people letting their hair down proper! The line up downstairs was - Jabba (beats reality), AJV (Beats Reality), Jonny (Spectrum), Brooksie (Beats Reality), Robosapians Live (Dead Famous Records) and finally Dave the Drummer Live (Hydraulix Records). The energy created in this room was amazing, slightly chaotic but huge amounts of fun, people threw their serious streak out of the window and just got on down and danced like nobody was watching!

The upstairs room catered for the lovers of psy, and a range of quite floaty, stompy and downright dirty psy was played out, after a few issues with speakers(?) and DJ's in a fix were sorted the music started up and people started wandering in, before long the dancefloor was pulsing with bodies who were loving what they heard, the lineup was as follows 12Many (Fusion Sound System), Forgotten (Spectrum), Acidic (Acidic Sound System), Mr Faster (Bad by Design), Psymmetrix Live (Phar Psyde Records), I have to say as my usual choice of dance music falls to psy-trance I enjoyed every set in this room, special mention to Forgotten and Mr Faster who both played diverse and fantastic sets.

It was a great party, there was a totally different vibe in either room, but once on the roof terrace which is always a welcome break from a steaming dancefloor at the Blue Mountain, everyone got together for a drink, chat and a laugh.

I am looking forward to the New Years Eve celebration at the plough and even more to dancing at the next party held at the Blue Mountain.

Many congratulations to all involved in this party and huge thanks to the crew for inviting us along to help spread the smiles and stomp around the dancefloor.
